Wenzola “Wendy” Robinson, Obit (M)

Obituaraies, Obituaries 0

Graceful to the end, Wenzola “Wendy” Robinson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024. Born on June 10, 1942, in Ft. Oglethorpe, Catoosa County, Georgia, Wenzola was the youngest daughter of MST William “Paul” and Mildred “Evelyn” Gray Edmundson. She was the cherished baby sister to Ronald Leon and Rita Gail.

Throughout her childhood, Wenzola lived in many places around the world, reflecting her family’s military service. Her early years included time in Japan during the first grade and Louisville, Kentucky in the fifth grade, before she eventually graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. Despite her many travels, Wenzola always considered Chattanooga, Tennessee, to be her childhood home.

On August 22, 1960, shortly after graduating from high school, Wenzola married her first husband, James Patrick “Pat” Daffron, in Orange County, Florida. The two met at a 30-cent hamburger joint in Rossville, Georgia, while hanging out with friends—a simple meeting that would lead to a lifetime of memories. Their 16-year marriage was filled with adventures as they traveled the world together and welcomed three children: William Patrick “Rick” Daffron, David Dwayne Daffron, and Cynthia Michelle Daffron Glasser McCubbins.

Primarily a devoted housewife, Wenzola also worked various jobs throughout her life. One of her most memorable experiences was as a telephone operator. She often recounted the story of a small child who called for help in making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and she happily guided him through the process. Eventually, Wenzola retired from Walmart in Summerville, Georgia, where she made many cherished friendships.

Though known to be a modest and humble woman, Wenzola was also vibrant, courageous, and full of life. Her family fondly remembers stories of her to include drag racing down Rossville Blvd with her friend and sister-in-law Donna Daffron, randomly throwing a can out of a car window to hit a stop sign, and laughing like a child on the Himalayan ride at Lake Winnepesaukah as it sped up. She once rode David’s motorcycle into a ditch, took her sons and their cousins to toilet paper a house, and even hid in the backseat of the Mustang so Cindy could cruise town before having her license. Wenzola also spent time as a BSA Leader, took David and Rick (wearing dog collars) to walk a picket line in Washington DC, and she loved going out to play cards on weekends.

On February 18, 1977, Wenzola married the love of her life, Robert “Perry” Robinson. Introduced by their friends, Alfred and Lorene Crabtree, the couple quickly fell in love and began their journey together. For the first time, Wenzola found herself in a relationship where she was loved and respected beyond measure. Together, Perry and Wenzola built a beautiful home in Teloga, Georgia, where they lived happily for 45 years.

Though her life was filled with hardship, Wenzola’s deep spiritual beliefs shaped her into a loving, graceful, and giving woman of God. Her faith was a guiding light, allowing her to face challenges with strength and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Wenzola served as an Elder and an active member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church for many years, where she worked with the youth group and Bible school. She was also part of the Women’s Circle that worked to help the community. In recent years, Wenzola joined Perennial Springs Baptist Church.

Wenzola is survived by her sister, Rita Gail Dunn; her loving husband, Perry Robinson; her children, William Patrick “Rick” Daffron (Delona), David Dwayne Daffron (Susan), and Cynthia “Cindy” Michelle McCubbins (Donnie); as well as seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her chosen sister and lifelong best friend, May Bell Broyles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Paul Edmundson; her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Leon & Julia Edmundson; and her brother-in-law, Tom Dunn.

Wenzola’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the time spent with her and the legacy she leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Active pallbearers will be Randall Franklin, Randy Broyles, Christopher Daffron, Alex Crawford, Pete Crabtree, and Donnie McCubbins.

Interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Mrs. Robinson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
