Today is September 11th – Patriot Day. It is a national day of remembrance that commemorates the victims of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania. Established by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush in December 2001, Patriot Day serves as a reminder of the impact of that day on the nation and the world. It is a day for Americans to honor the memories of those who perished, to pay tribute to the bravery of the first responders, and to reflect on the values of freedom, democracy, and resilience.

Man Arrested For Public Indecency After Lewd Act

A forty-one-year-old Chattooga County man was charged with multiple offenses this week after Summerville Police were called about a man destroying property on Martin Street on Monday morning. When police arrived on the scene, they saw Jeremy Lee Rich “destroying property and yelling” at residents in the area. Mr. Rich then proceeded to pull his pants down and perform a lewd act in the presence of officers and with a female resident in sight. Rich was arrested and continued yelling on the way to the jail. Once inside the jail, officers removed the handcuffs and Rich began swinging his arms towards officers and yelling. He was cuffed again and escorted to a cell. Rich was charged with Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Public Indecency and Obstruction of Law Enforcement.

Learn about the history of the Tooga and some 100 years of the other theaters in the county . Exciting plans will be unveiled for the rebirth of the Tooga as a community space for concerts, play and programs. You will be able to see virtual pictures of the way it will look and function. The Summerville Steam Special Chili & Brunswick Stew Cook-Off event will be held at the Summerville Depot during the hours of 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. Amateur teams will compete in a fun filled day of friendly and healthy competition. It is not determined yet who will enjoy this event more, the competitor’s dressing up to serve event goers as they compete for the most spirited team or the die-hard cooks wanting to take home one of the coveted 1st Place Division cash prizes and trophies. Attendees will be able to sample different Chili and Brunswick stew recipes and vote for their favorites in People’s Choice Taste and Best Team Theme/Spirit. Wristbands will be available for purchase on site for $5 beginning at 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. or until wristbands are sold out. Craft & dessert vendors will also be on site, along with music and a dining area inside the Depot Freight Room. Competitors will also be offering their products for purchase during this event. This free community event is sponsored by Summerville Main Street and GP Federal Credit Union.
